For participants to gain awareness of the main types of epileptic seizures, gain knowledge about rescue medication and the principles of administration.


By the end of the Epilepsy Awareness and Administration of Buccal Midazolam session participants will be able to:

  • Explain epilepsy and identify signs and symptoms
  • Recognise who may be at risk and how the condition may affect them
  • Explain how to deal with a person who presents with an epileptic seizure
  • Describe various ‘triggers’
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the medication prescribed for the condition and correct procedure for Buccal administration of Midazolam
  • Gain an awareness of the condition epilepsy

  • Myths
  • Common types of seizures
  • ‘epistatus’ medication
  • Storage
  • Procedures before, during and after administration
  • ‘care planning’, protocols and documentation
  • Practical
  • First Aid
  • Recovery Position

If Administration of Buccal Midazolam is not needed in your workplace, we can discuss this with you. 1 hour will be deducted from the course and cost accordingly.

NB: Competency is based on workplace performance and MUST be monitored by the employer
