Have you always wanted to work with kids? Now’s your chance! Our acclaimed Level 3 Playwork Course helps anybody who wants to work in the childcare sector to gain an accreditation that is recognised throughout the industry.

Based on a set of Playwork Principles, this course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to successfully carry out effective playwork with children. The process of play and its importance to child development will be at the heart of the material, while other fundamental issues such as health and safety will be thoroughly addressed, in order to fully prepare students for employment in this sector.

This course is the perfect stepping stone for those of you who wish to join the childcare sector, whether as a childminder, nanny, or nursery assistant. It will also be invaluable to students hoping to someday establish their own child-minding practice.

This course contains 13 diverse and exciting units, all of which have been constructed to give students the level of knowledge required to understand and effectively practice playwork. By clicking on the ‘Snapshot’ tab above, you can see an outline of the course’s syllabus.

The course will begin by providing students with an in-depth understanding of the Playwork principles, which are at the core of the National Occupational Standards. These standards summarise the importance of play, and the role of a playworker within childcare. It is essential that students achieve a firm grasp of these concepts if they are to carry out this work in the future.

As the course progresses, students will gain further insight into the specific practices involved in playwork, such as methods of observation, managing playwork and play possibilities. They will also receive training on topics which are related to the practice of childcare more generally, such as safeguarding the wellbeing of children, behaviour management and working with colleagues. Students will therefore achieve an overall understanding of working with children, broadening the application of their training.

You’ll be happy to hear there are no formal requirements for taking part in this excellent course. The materials are straightforward and a basic education should stand you in good stead for successfully completing this course.

It is essential, however, that you have a particular interest in the area. Without this, you are unlikely to get very far in the course. Similarly, we expect you to be prepared to use your initiative and perform research along the way!

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 3 Certificate of Achievement in Playwork from Focus Awards and a diploma from Cambridge Open College

While these qualifications are ideal for any professional required to demonstrate commitment to CPD (Continuous Professional Development), they are also hugely beneficial for those hoping to gain specialist knowledge. Whether you are experienced or new to the field, you will be able to further enhance your employability in the sector.

In addition, this course will help you develop valuable transferable skills such as the ability to organise and manage workloads. These skills will assist you in any future endeavor, whether it’s further study or a career change. And while it is your decision where the course takes you, we will offer a continued level of support through a range of FREE additional resources designed with your future in mind!
